I’m pleased to announce that I have partnered with William Aprill from Aprill Risk Consulting to offer what I believe is one of the most unique classes ever developed for the civilian self-protection market.
This class is all about “worst case scenarios.” It covers all the topics that you haven’t been able to find in the other open-enrollment classes you have seen. The two day class covers the following subjects:
– Hostage Survival Techniques- What to do in the event you are taken hostage, how to psychologically defeat the hostage taker, escape of common restraints: how to pick and shim handcuffs, how to break zip ties, and how to escape flex cuffs.
– The Psychology of Violent Criminals and How They Choose Their Victims
– Tactical First Aid for Gunshot wounds
– Constructing an Effective Defense Paradigm– This presentation will review common mental and philosophical errors made by practitioners as they undertake preparation for effective defense against violent aggression. Practical pitfalls and limitations in thinking about lawful violence will also be reviewed in depth.
– Armed Citizen Response to Terrorist Bombing Incidents
– Weapon Retention and Disarming- This class will provide students with simple and effective techniques to defend a holstered firearm and disarm a criminal holding you at gunpoint.
The class will be two days (Saturday and Sunday Jan 24-25, 2015) in Columbus, Ohio. It will primarily consist of fast paced lecture/discussion with some physical skills practice (weapon retention/disarming and escaping restraints). All abilities and skill levels welcome. The instructors will be William Aprill and Greg Ellifritz:
William Aprill
William Aprill is a licensed mental health professional with over 15 years experience across the continuum of care. He presently maintains a private practice and consultancy specializing in post-traumatic interventions and other disciplines.
William is a former deputy sheriff (Orleans Parish, LA, Criminal Sheriff’s Office) and Special Deputy US Marshal (Eastern District of Louisiana). He is a decorated competitive shooter and has taught civilian, law enforcement, and military personnel in various fighting skills since 1990. He maintains an active schedule both as student and teacher, having been instructor-rated by several top-tier trainers and studying under many of the most influential members of the combative arts community.
Through his company Aprill Risk Consulting, William has presented his material on violent criminals and their decision-making, defensive incident aftermath, mindset development and defensive preparedness locally and nationally, including at the Annual Conference of the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors (IALEFI), Rangemaster Tactical Conference, Tactical Response Alumni Weekend, and at Paul-E-Palooza, the memorial conference and fundraiser for the family of the late Paul Gomez.
Greg Ellifritz
Greg is a 20-year veteran police officer, spending 13 years as the full time tactical training officer for his central Ohio agency. In that position, he was responsible for developing and instructing all of the in-service training for a 54-officer police department. Prior to his training position, he served as patrol officer, bike patrol officer, bike patrol coordinator, and field training officer for his agency. He currently serves as a patrol officer, firearms instructor, and precision marksman.
He has been an active instructor for the Tactical Defense Institute since 2001 and a lead instructor for TDI’s ground fighting, knife fighting, active shooter, impact weapons, and extreme close quarters shooting classes.
Greg holds instructor, master instructor, or armorer certifications in more than 75 different weapons systems, defensive tactics programs, and law enforcement specialty areas. In addition to these instructor certifications, Greg has trained with many of the leading firearms and edged weapons instructors in the country.
Greg has been an adjunct instructor for the Ohio Peace Officer’s Training Academy, teaching firearms, defensive tactics, bike patrol, knife defense and physical fitness topics. He has taught firearms and self defense classes at the national and international level through the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, The American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers, the Esteemed Rangemaster Tactical Conference, and The Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police.
He has a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Management and has written for several publications and websites including: ‘The Firearms Instructor,” “Ohio Police Chief,” “Combat Handguns,” Survivalblog.com, “Concealed Carry Magazine,” Primedia’s “Personal & Home Defense Annual,” and “American Handgunner.”
