Here are a few links to articles and videos I found interesting this week and want to share. Some are intellectual. Some are informative. Some are just fun. If you have some free time, check them out this weekend.
Edible Weeds
Some good information on some commonly seen edible and medicinal wild plants. Most of these grow near human habitation. I bet you could probably find several in your own yard!
Cheap guns are good enough
In this article Massad Ayoob argues that many cheaper guns will still do the job in a defensive situation. I agree, but why scrimp on something so important? If you don’t have the money and have to rely on an inexpensive gun, I understand. But if you have a smart phone and a 32″ flat screen, upgrade your HiPoint to a more serious piece of hardware.
10 Things Most Americans Don’t Know About America
An excellent article about Americans’ perspectives on other cultures. While I haven’t been to quite as many countries as the author (about 30), my experiences echo his. His information is right on.
Concealed Carry for Larger Women
A good article discussing holster options for you ladies who are bigger than a size six.
Should We Shoot On The Move?
Dave Spaulding dispels some of the myths about shooting on the move.
Marching Powder: A Gringo Mule in Bolivian Prison
A great book review about a drug trafficker who ends up in a Bolivian prison. The text from the link above describes the drug smuggling process better than anything I’ve ever read. I actually saw the San Pedro Prison that was described in the book when I was in La Paz, Bolivia a few years back. It’s a very strange and scary place. I’ll be reading this book.
Colo. Massacre Highlights Threat of Homemade Bombs
A very good article and video about the dangers of homemade explosives (like the ones the shooter in Colorado placed in his home). The video will show exactly what kind of damage a small amount of explosive material (that can be mixed with readily obtainable chemicals) can do.
