Last weekend I was honored to teach my TDI Defensive Knife Class at Rick Hinderer’s annual get together in Shreve, Ohio. This was my fourth time being hosted by Rick and his wife Lori and I always have a great time.
This last class had 14 students coming from as far as Michigan, Florida, Virginia, and Tennessee. It was very nice to have three physicians taking the class, as one student (who will remain nameless) managed to cut himself on his own knife TWICE! Small self-inflicted nicks are the cost of doing business when training with real knives and aren’t uncommon in my classes, but this was the first time ever in 11 years of teaching that I’ve had the same student cut himself twice! Fortunately, we had an ample number of skilled medics in the group and the student was patched up with a couple bandaids and back in training in a matter of minutes!
Besides the weekend long knife class, Rick hosts a non-stop cookout, knife lottery, and social event for three days. If you are interested in custom knives, this is a must- attend event filled with fun activities. Nearly 100 people attended this year. If you want to attend the next get together/training class, head over to Rick’s website.
Here are a few photos from the class and the get together. If you want to see more, check out the pictures thread on the USN Forums.
Special thanks to Rick, Rob, Ericka, Bryan, and Ken for the photos. I look forward to seeing all you guys again next year!
