“Books are what you step on to take you to a higher shelf. The higher your stack of books, the higher the shelf you can reach.”
– Jim Rohn
I truly believe in the quote above. I read a lot of books, more books than anyone I know…except Alain Burrese. Alain is a lawyer, author, and Hapkido instructor with a background of a lifetime of study in a large variety of martial arts and service as an Army Paratrooper and sniper instructor. He’s written quite a few books that I’ve truly enjoyed over the years.
His latest work is How To Protect Yourself By Developing a Fighter’s Mindset. It is a 96-page ebook that is absolutely full of great advice about the mental aspect of the fighting arts. In the book, Alain writes individual “rules” for developing the fighter’s mindset. Each chapter explains the rule and gives examples of how it works by sharing stories from Alain’s personal experiences and those of his friends. In addition to sharing these experiences, Alain liberally adds motivational quotes from a huge variety of people to further illustrate the points he is making.
The book actually reminded me of an updated and more instructive version of Jeff Cooper’s Principles of Personal Defense. I believe Alain’s book is just as motivational as Cooper’s, but actually contains far more actionable knowledge.
In addition to the advice about mindset, the author also includes an extensive recommended reading list and several more pages of motivational quotes from the best trainers in the firearms and self defense business.
At $6.99, the book is a bargain. You can pick it up through the link above or by going to Alain’s website. At his website, you can sign up for his free 24 page guide to Situational Awareness via email. Shortly after signing up, Alain will email you a coupon for 35% off this book. It was a great deal before, but if you wait for the discount coupon, it will be even better!
