About 15,000 of you have signed up to get email updates whenever I write a new article. The service I’ve used to provide those updates is Feedburner, a company now owned by Google.
Back in April, Google decided to change the core functions of Feedburner. Sometime in July, Feedburner will no longer send you email updates whenever I post a new article.
I’ve used Feedburner since the site’s inception in 2012, primarily because it is free. I’ve been evaluating replacement services over the last couple months. Because my email list is so large, most of the services that could replace Feedburner will cost $300-$700 a month. That’s not in my budget. A $500 email list service bill would eat up all of my site’s advertising revenues.
My website developer and I are continuing to look for cheaper alternatives, but we don’t have one in place yet. We may never find one. The search is on.
The bottom line is that at some point next month, you should expect that your Feedburner email updates will cease. They may or may not be replaced by another service.
If you rely on my emails and want to guarantee that you get them, I would suggest signing up for my Patreon Page. For a little over $10 a year, you will get full text, ad-free, versions of my articles emailed to the address of your choice. The Patreon email updates will continue and they are currently the only way you will be able to get my articles emailed to you after Feedburner’s email service shuts down.
