I just booked some short notice classes that will be running in a little less than a month. I think there is probably enough local demand to fill them quickly.
I’m teaching “Impact Weapons for Personal Protection” and “Extreme Close Quarters Gunfighting” at James and Korey Cocking’s private range and training facility in Brookville, Ohio. It’s off of Interstate 70 between Dayton and the Ohio/Indiana border.
The training site is less than 90 minutes from Columbus and Cincinnati. It’s less than two hours from Indianapolis.
The Impact Weapons class will be on Saturday. August 21, 2021 from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm and costs $175.00. You can register at the link below.

Impact Weapons for Personal Protection.
Active Response Training will be presenting a one day impact weapons course focusing on teaching simple and effective self-defense techniques using a straight stick, expandable baton, and Kubaton.
The Kubaton is a smaller impact weapon that usually is attached to a key chain. Kubaton techniques can also be utilized with hand held flashlights and stout “tactical” pens.
Students will learn legal considerations for using impact weapons, optimal striking techniques, rapid deployment drills, defenses against common street attacks, and lower force level control options using these weapons. We will also cover how to use the weapons in multiple assailant confrontations and how to defend against potentially life threatening physical attacks.
The class will be a fast-paced combination of striking drills and force on force scenarios with other students.
The instructor will provide all expandable batons, foam training batons, Kubatons, and striking targets used in class.
Weather permitting, the class will be held outside, but no social distancing will be possible as you will be training in close contact with other students. Please dress for the weather and bring whatever hydration and food you may need to spend a late summer day outside.
This class has a moderate level of physical activity. You will be on your feet all day. Most of the time you will be working simulated fighting drills with a partner or partners. There are a few drills in class that will involve striking pads for 30-seconds to one minute at a time.
There is no intentional hard contact and I will not be purposely attempting to wear you out. I will attempt to accommodate any age and injury status so long as you are able to stand most of the day and hit things with sticks.
Fair warning: This class is in no way abusive, but you will be experiencing pain compliance techniques executed by your training partners. It isn’t unusual for you to wake up with a few small bruises and have some mild muscle soreness the day after class.
This is the only impact weapons class I am offering in 2021. If you would like to learn this material, here’s your chance
It may not be legal to carry your defensive firearm in all locations. Sticks and tool handles are available everywhere. Carrying pens and flashlights is legal activity all over the world. Come learn how to turn those seemingly innocuous objects into effective weapons. You’ll never be unarmed again!
Extreme Close Range Gunfighting
The skills you learned on the target shooting range or in your CCW class may not work for you when the fight happens within arms’ reach. Extreme close range gunfighting is a completely different skill set, one that relies far more on FIGHTING than on mere shooting.
With up to 50% of gunfight fatalities occurring at ranges closer than five feet, you need this skill set. Join Greg Ellifritz as he teaches a dynamic close quarters gunfighting class that will cover the following topics:
– Retention Shooting Positions
– Body positioning and shooting stances for the close quarters fight
– In-fight weapons access and drawing skills
– Stopping and opponent’s draw
– Making contact shots without creating malfunctions
– Close quarters gun disarms
– One handed close quarters malfunction drills
– Using the firearm as an impact weapon
– Drawing and shooting from unconventional positions
– Weapons access and gunfighting from the ground
– Weapons retention, (in holster and in hand)
– and numerous other techniques
This is not the class for a beginning shooter. Proper gunhandling skills and evidence of prior training is a prerequisite for the course. Prior training in a combative martial art or police defensive tactics class will be useful, but not required.
In order to be accepted into the course, evidence of competent gunhandling (drawing safely from holster, one handed shooting, malfunction clearance under stress, and alternate position shooting) must be presented. If students do not possess these basic skills at the start of the course, they will be barred from further participation. Before registering, please send a short email list of previous formal firearms training to Greg1095@yahoo.com for approval.
Required Equipment:
– Handgun (no ported weapons)
– Sturdy belt- mounted holster that will allow reholstering with one hand. Holsters can be Outside or Inside the waistband. They can be appendix or behind the hip.
No small of the back, ankle, or crossdraw holsters. No Serpa-style holsters allowed.
– Spare reloading devices and holder (you will need to be able to carry at least 15 rounds on your person)
– Eye and Ear protection. Electronic hearing protection is recommended
– 150 Rounds of ammunition
– A pair of gloves is useful, but not necessary for the weapon retention portion of the class
