Best knife sheath for EDC ever!
Craig gave me one of his El Nino push daggers and this sheath to evaluate. I’m wearing it as I type this update. Both the knife and the sheath are extremely well thought out. The sheath can hold both the regular push dagger as well as the trainer with no modifications or adjustment. It will clip to the waistband of a pair of gym shorts or yoga pants without the need for a belt. It is a work of genius. The plan is to make the same sheath available for other fixed blade carry knives (like the TDI and the Benchmade) at some time in the future. So far I’m really impressed with this setup. The sheath should be commercially available soon.

Arming teachers: Science or shot in the dark?
After last week’s school shooting in Nashville, I had to dig up this older article for your edification. Computer modeling of active killers in schools shows that having armed teachers/SROs significantly decreases fatalities.
“What we found was profound,” said Dietz. He said a single resource officer “or even an armed teacher in a defensive position between attacker and students can reduce the number of victims by up to 70 percent.”
Everybody’s Lying About the Link Between Gun Ownership and Homicide
The recent Nashville shooting has also led to an increased call to ban firearms. I went back and dug up this study you might find enlightening. Gun ownership rates in the USA as well as other countries shows no correlation to homicide rates.
“There is no clear correlation whatsoever between gun ownership rate and gun homicide rate. Not within the USA. Not regionally. Not internationally. Not among peaceful societies. Not among violent ones. Gun ownership doesn’t make us safer. It doesn’t make us less safe. The correlation simply isn’t there. It is blatantly not-there. It is so tremendously not-there that the “not-there-ness” of it alone should be a huge news story.”
For an even deeper dive into this issue, read Dr. Yamane’s article Understanding and Misunderstanding American Gun Culture and Violence.
“Guns remain a normal part of life for a large part of the US population. At least 75,000,000 American adults personally own a gun, and tens of millions more live in households with guns in them.[11] A comprehensive survey released by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center in 2017 highlights the fact that a majority of the population currently lives with a gun in their house or has in the past, and a sizeable minority – what I call the “gun curious” – have thought about or are actively considering acquiring a gun. Only about one-third of Americans say they do not and will never own guns. A remarkable 7 out of 10 American adults have fired a gun at some point in their lives—nearly 180 million people. Viewed the other way around: A minority of American adults has never shot a gun.[12] Guns are statistically normal, and normal people use guns.”

The Rise & Fall of the American Saturday Night Special
We don’t hear too much about “Saturday Night Specials” in the media anymore. Here’s your interesting fact of the day. Back in the late 1800s through the early 1900s, these guns were called “Suicide Specials” because they were cheap guns that would likely only reliably hold up for a single shot. For what it’s worth, I bought a Jennings J-22 (like the photo) in 1989. It was $69. I still have that gun as well as a Raven MP-25 that has at least one documented body on it.
Get Your Head Outta Your Ass! Situational Awareness with Pat McNamara
“Everyday schmucks with their heads up their asses are myopic. They couldn’t spot a psycho with a shotgun if it were hanging a foot below his trench coat. So it is our job to protect and serve. Don’t be one of the zombies constantly in the “white” according to Jeff Cooper’s color code. If you find yourself there, say, “Pop.” That’s the sound it makes when you pull your head out of your ass.”

Ruck Training Programs – PART 1
I’ve recently started rucking one or two days a week. It’s brutal. I think I could argue that at a body weight of 265 pounds, every walk is a ruck. But I still throw on my pack and do a couple miles every week. Rucking (long walks while carrying a weighted backpack) is an incredible way to improve your fitness. Here’s how to do it correctly.
