Here are a few links to articles and videos I found interesting this week. Some are intellectual. Some are informative. Some are just fun. If you have some free time, check them out this weekend.
Alternative Antibiotics in Survival
One of the most common questions I get in my medical classes is about stockpiling drugs in the event that a natural disaster or economic collapse cripples our current health care system. One way you can legally acquire antibiotics without a prescription is to use veterinary antibiotics. The ones mentioned here are actually human drugs, made by human drug companies, for humans. They are labeled with a veterinary label and as such, can be legally sold. You will pay a premium for these (up to $1 a pill). Most of them are on Wal-Mart’s $4 list if you get a legitimate prescription, but if you don’t mind paying extra, they are a good option. The antibiotics mentioned in this article would probably cover you for about 90% of the bacterial illnesses you might get.
My favorite source for these is Cal-Vet.

How to Kick as Much Ass as Possible and Have the Time of Your Life Kicking It
“The goal should not to make it safely to death, unscarred and without enemies.
The goal should be to know with every cell of your being that you kicked as much ass as possible, and had the time of your life kicking it.”

Civilian EMS Should Consider Tourniquets

11 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started My Business
Number 8 has been especially important for me. I’ve learned that I shouldn’t teach a class unless I’m excited about doing it. If I don’t think “Hell Yes” when I’m booking it, it’s not worth my effort.
