The truth about trigger weight

I agree with most of what the author says. But, having held suspects at gunpoint (with finger on trigger because I thought they were about to shoot), I appreciate a little trigger weight. I don’t want a 2 lb. competition trigger in my defensive gun, but I don’t mind a 3.5lb Glock trigger (that is really a little heavier than that.)

Polygonal v. Traditional L&G Rifling (“Glock tests”)

Glocks (and a few other pistols) use rifling that is polygonal. This makes the bullet fit a little tighter going down the bore and can result in higher velocities. How much higher? Check out the link to see the testing results.

A Brazilian police officer is shot in the back by one of his trainees. It’s bloody. The cop is paralyzed for life. If you are doing any type of force-on-force scenario training without specifics checks, designated safety officers, and pat down searches of all participants, you are doing it wrong. Something like this will eventually happen if you don’t follow proper procedures.

CrossFit: The Good, Bad, and the Ugly

I first started doing CrossFit in 2004. I did the main site workouts exclusively for six years, was certified as an instructor, and taught CrossFit classes at a commercial gym for a couple years. I got away from it because the programming didn’t match my particular goals. The author here is completely correct. The system is “exercise” rather than “training” for most people. If you want exercise and moderate your programming so that you don’t get hurt, CrossFit can be a great system. But it may not be for you if you have specific athletic goals in mind.

I get lots of questions about using wasp spray for self defense. I generally advise against it. There is a difference between a chemical that is a neurotoxin to insects and one that will incapacitate humans.

Here’s the first use of wasp spray that I’ve ever seen reported in the media. It didn’t work, but ultimately the steak knife did.
