I’ve been deluged with messages and comments from people who are angry they are not getting their free email site updates.
Here’s the deal…
I had a free email subscription service called Feedburner. Once a day, Feedburner would send an email link to all my subscribers when I posted a new article on my site. It was awesome. I had almost 20K email subscribers at one point. They all got daily automated updates and the process was completely free for both me and the subscriber.
In June of 2021, Google decided to deactivate Feedburner. At that time, I advised all my readers that their free email links were going away. People were still unbelievably angry and I’ve received hate mail about not getting email updates several times a week for the last year.
A little over a month ago, Feedburner suddenly reactivated and all my subscribers started getting emails again. Surprisingly, there was a mass exodus from the email list. Since the service has been active again, I’ve had more than 2000 people unsubscribe.
My audience is tough to figure out. Thousands of you are mad you don’t get my emails. Thousands more are mad that they are getting the email updates for which they signed up. I really don’t get it and it is the source of endless frustration for me.
Now Feedburner is off again. People aren’t getting their daily emails. The hate mail is flowing even more intensely.
I have no control over Feedburner. I doubt it will ever work again, but it might randomly start sending emails without notice.
For the last year, my website designer and I have been looking for a Feedburner alternative. To get emails sent to my large subscriber list would me cost between $300 and $700 a month if I contracted with companies who provide similar service to what Feedburner did.
Seven hundred dollars a month to send you all emails is too much of a strain on my pensioner income. Don’t expect free emails any time in the future. Using the replacement emailing services are not financially feasible for me.
The good news is that if you want my site update emails, there is an alternative.
If you rely on my emails and want to guarantee that you get them, sign up on my Patreon Page. For less than $1.00 a month you will get full text, ad-free versions of all my articles emailed to the address of your choice. The Patreon email updates are currently the only way you will be able to get my articles emailed to you since Feedburner’s email service shut down again. I write about 20 articles a month. If you want email updates when those articles post, you can get them for less than a nickel for each email.
If you don’t want to sign up for Patreon, you can read my articles directly from my website, or follow me on social media. I post all my writings on my Facebook and Twitter pages.
Thank you all for putting up with the ever-changing cyber challenges.
