Here’s a great shooting drill for you to try. I got it from the late Todd Green’s PistolTraining.com website. The site has a treasure trove of valuable drills you can use to improve your shooting performance.
This is the most recent one I’ve tried. It’s called “99” and involves shooting (you guessed it) 99 rounds. A link to it is HERE.
The drill uses a 4″x 6″ target at 7, 10, and 15 yards. I used a sheet of copy paper folded in half. You’ll also need a shot timer. Do this:
- 7 yards, 2.5sec PAR: draw and shoot three (10 times, total 30 rounds)
- 7 yards, 5.0sec PAR: draw, fire one, reload, fire two (10 times, total 30 rounds)
- 10 yards, 3.5sec PAR: draw and shoot three (10 times, total 30 rounds)
- 15 yards, 5.0sec PAR: draw and shoot three (3 times, total 9 rounds)
The drill isn’t horrible, but it’s harder than it seems. I pushed the time limits when I shot and made them all pretty easily (except for one flubbed reload.) Shooting fast, I dropped 12 out of the target area. I think I could have done better if I took all of the allotted time. I’ll be running it again to track my improvements.
Give it a try and let me know how you do!
