Here are a few links to articles and videos I found interesting this week. Some are intellectual. Some are informative. Some are just fun. If you have some free time, check them out this weekend.
Hurts So Good: A Beginner’s Guide Self-Myofascial/Trigger Point Release
I post a lot about SMR and foam rolling because I’ve seen how much it has helped my athletic performance. Here is a great article with lots of pictures to get you started. I don’t use the little quadroller thing he’s using. My top pics for tools are the Rumble Roller and a couple lacrosse balls.
Wilderness Survival For City Dwellers
A lot of my friends talk about how they would flee the city and “live off the land” in the event of some type of social or economic collapse. I don’t think this will be a successful option for 99% of people. Here’s an article with a good list of questions you should ask yourself before considering such an endeavor.
Even if you can answer “yes” to all of them, I still don’t generally recommend running to the hills. As an individual, you won’t last long, no matter how good your skill set is.
Look at this article as a good self analysis of your current skill set. If you can’t do something on this list, learn! Not necessarily for surviving alone in the woods, but to become generally more self reliant.
Knee Valgus
Valgus knee collapse is very common in females. You can regularly see it when watching people walk. It ends up putting a lot of strain on the knee and hip joints. Here is a detailed article about all the possible causes and how to fix it.
Homemade
Yet another reason why gun control legislation won’t work…a gallery of photos of homemade firearms
7.62 NATO, Turning cover into concealment since…. well, not as often as you may think.
The .308 is a great round, but it doesn’t quite live up to all the internet hype.
Why the Knife?
Nice article from my friend Chris Fry about using the knife for self defense.
Who Are the Oath Keepers?
The Oath Keepers is a group of current and retired police officers and military service members who are pledged to uphold the oath they swore to protect the US Constitution. It’s is a worthy organization to join if you are concerned about the loss of our Constitutional rights.
“The main impetus of the education you got in whatever police academy you’ve been through has been liability control for whatever agency you work for. Educate yourself on the Constitution. Educate yourself on the founders. Educate yourself on what is expected of you on the street vs. what the Constitution says. If you apply what the Constitution says, you’re not going to get crossways with the people or in most cases your department. It’s errant policies and errant oath breakers and politicians who are going to push you to do things that you’ve never done before. Trust your gut and educate yourself on what you really swore to that day you held your hand up and swore an oath. Be prepared to stand up for what you believe in and what you swore an oath to.”
Gripping the snub revolver
My friend Claude Werner continues his excellent series on shooting basics with a demonstration of the proper gripping and shooting technique for a snub revolver.
