THE TROUBLE WITH RED FLAG LAWS
“Red Flag laws need to be done right, and that won’t happen unless our side goes beyond knee-jerk opposition and has a hand in formulating them.
Such a law, IMHO, should require probable cause to trigger confiscation.
– It would have to provide for quick hearing and resolution of false claims, something that will be difficult in today’s clogged court system.
– There are logistical issues to consider: storage space for temporarily confiscated guns, perhaps provisions for them to be stored with FFL dealers, etc., protocols for disposal of a gun collection if the owner is indeed dangerous based on investigation and adjudication and is institutionalized, and so on.
– There should be serious, and perhaps mandatory, penalties for false accusations.
– If the claim is that the subject has said he’s going to steal his neighbor’s or relative’s guns to commit mass murder, do the innocent neighbor’s or relative’s guns get seized?”
Max Michel 7x7x7 Drill
Twenty-one rounds and two reloads in seven seconds is quite a sporty challenge.
If you are looking for something fun that doesn’t require quite the level of skill demanded by the Max Michel drill, give The Box Drill a try. If those aren’t enough drills, you can always do the Federal Air Marshal qualification.
How to Escape a Chokehold Using a Simple Folding Knife
I’ve taken close to half a dozen training classes from Michael Janich over the years. I generally like his stuff and look forward to reading his articles. This is the first thing he’s written that I disagree with. I don’t believe that this method is the optimal way to use a knife to defeat a chokehold.
In real life, a competent choker will sink the choke much deeper than what is showed in the photograph. The crook of his elbow will be tight up against your throat. I also commonly see attackers jerking their victims around to gain compliance in this situation. Chokes are seldom static activities. There is always movement involved in any fight.
Do you really want to pick a target that is less than a millimeter from your own throat while you are being thrashed about? Not me. Too much of a chance of cutting my own throat or face.
I think targeting the lower body with reverse grip stabs is a better solution for this scenario. You lose cool points in the fight if you cut your own throat.
Small Fixed Blades for EDC
Speaking of knives, Chris Fry shows some excellent options for carrying fixed blade knives as defensive tools. As all of you who have taken my knife class know, the fixed blade is clearly better for self defense than the folder. Chris teaches some excellent classes through his company MDTS. If you are in the New York area, check him out. If you are looking for the TDI knife or the LDK knife that I designed (pictured above), the cheapest price is usually on Amazon.com.
Junctional Hemorrhage: The next frontier for hemorrhage control
Knowing how to pack a junctional wound is an essential skill for anyone interested in battlefield first aid.
Which Antibiotics To Have For Survival Settings?
Some information about choosing antibiotics for survival situations. If you are going to have an antibiotic stockpile, you need a book like The Sanford Guide to Anti-Microbial Therapy to learn about indications, adverse reactions, and dosage of these drugs.
Why a Double Barrel Shotgun?
That double barrel coach gun may not be quite the anachronism you think it is.
LA PALMA, EL BORRACHO Y LA CORONA. travel tips
“The cellphones and G-Shock watch you have might not be anything high end but it’s reason enough to have someone cut you or stab you for them. They see things in a fleeting moment and that is what they go for. They won’t ask if your chain is real gold or fake, they will rip it off or drag you from it… Be modest, leave that stuff at home. Realize middle class means rich in some places. Humility is a gift, material wealth a lie and travel the best investment there is. Be smart about what you advertise.”
Concealed Carry Ballistics: Challenging the Stopping Power Conventional Wisdom
I don’t agree with all of the author’s conclusions, but this is good reading for you ballistics nerds.
Share With All the Schools, Please…
I’m exploring my softer side with this post…
But seriously, this is an excellent way to prevent many school shootings. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of work on the part of the teachers so I’m not convinced that it will have a significant buy-in. If you are a teacher or deal with children in any other formal context, think about doing what this teacher does.
Should the first response to active killers be warning shots?
I honestly don’t think that this is a good model for active killer interdiction. With that said, it’s this type of out of the box thinking that brings advancement in our craft.

15 Shootouts: Lessons From Ralph Friedman
It’s rare to find a cop with 15 shootouts under his belt in today’s age. We should learn from his experiences. Here is the book that Mas references.
How To Choose a Concealed-Carry Pistol Instructor
Please thoroughly vet your instructors. There are a lot of folks teaching classes they shouldn’t be teaching. After more than two decades of full time firearms and combatives instructing experience and having accumulated almost 5000 hours of formal tactical training, I’m a bit contemptuous of the “instructor” who hangs out his shingle after having taken a weekend NRA course.

What I’m reading…
Fascinating science about what we currently know about addiction is wrong. The book proposes the idea that addiction is truly a learning disorder rather than a chemical imbalance in the brain.

Not Everyone Should Conceal Carry – Train, or Don’t Carry
“If you don’t have the time to train, consider not conceal carrying until you make the time to train. Finding 15-30 minutes per week to dry fire at home isn’t difficult.
Similarly, if you don’t have the time to look up from your phone and be aware of what’s going on around you, consider not carrying a firearm until you train yourself to look around at what’s going on in the world.”
How to Load a Pistol Magazine
Many of my female students have more problems loading magazines than they do firing guns. Here are some tips. My best advice is to get a Maglula magazine loader. I don’t know how I lived without mine for so long.
SHOULD YOUR FOLDING KNIFE BE CARRIED TIP UP OR TIP DOWN?
Massad Ayoob identifies a potential safety concern if you carry your defensive blade “tip up.” All my defensive knives are oriented tip up because I use the “wave” opening feature and that only works tip up. I’ve never experienced the issues the author describes, but I don’t carry liner lock folders.
All the Crime, All the Time: How Citizen Works
Some of you will find this app indispensable. Some will want to avoid it at all costs. While having real-time intelligence is a benefit in a crisis, constantly listening to this type of police radio chatter will have a net negative effect on your sanity. People aren’t designed to experience that much trauma on a day to day basis. If you listen to it long enough, you may be doing irreparable harm.
All about CBD Oil: How It Works and Its Potential Benefits
