This guy was stabbed, kidnapped and locked into a car that was then driven into a quarry! He had to hold his breath as the car filled with water and kick out a window to escape.
It’s a horrible story, but it provides some learning points:
1) Don’t be taken to the “Second Crime Scene”! If someone is trying to kidnap you or drag you off into a more secluded location, you are most likely to end up raped and/or killed. We never tell our clients exactly what to do in every situation (as situations, motivations, abilities, and tools differ in every encounter), but our one hard and fast rule is “No Second Crime Scenes”. If the criminal wants you, fight or flee. make him deal with you right there and take the chances that someone will intervene or call the police. Your outcomes will statistically be much better.
2) Have you ever considered having to escape from handcuffs, zip ties, tape, or ropes? What about escaping from a moving car or from a vehicle trunk? Do you know how to break a car window? Do you carry any tools that might make escape easier?
Being held captive is a scenario that everyone must consider in our modern times. The time to think about escape plans is now…not in the heat of the moment.
3) Never give up! This guy was in about the worst possible position. He was suffering from a stab wound kidnapped and dumped into a quarry. After he escaped he had to walk two miles to get help! Yet he still prevailed. If you are alive to recognize you are injured, you will likely survive. Don’t get trapped into the spiral of negative or defeatist thinking. Get your mind right and figure out a way to win!
I hope none of you ever have to face what this man did. If you plan ahead, you won’t have to worry about it!
